TVET Forum and STAR Awards 2017

Over 650 delegates all over the country have attended the 2nd TVET Quality Forum and 1st TESDA STAR Awards held on October 27,2017 at Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila Hotel, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.

With the presence of TESDA stakeholders from TTIs and TVIs, SUCs and industry partners, they have the highlighted the importance of technical vocational education in the skills development of the Filipino workforce. Transforming TVET thru Research and Innovation has been raised as one of the challenges being faced by the tech-voc institutions.

​

“The major concern of TVET is to address the pressing challenge for creating and adapting research, inventions and innovations in various field of technology to transform into progressive development. Research and Innovation is a powerful tool for change, therefore, it is a key driver to achieve quality, inclusive growth and sustainable development” Dr. Renato M. Sorolla, President II of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, stressed on his speech.

This is a way of supporting the target stated by DG Mamondiong on raising the bar of the Philippine TVET through development of high level qualifications.

​

More so, this can be an avenue in achieving the goal of a becoming a TVET for global competitiveness, TVET for social equity and TVET for employability.

​

One of the highpoints on the event was the input of an APACC Gold Awardee from Politeknik Port Dickson, Malaysia, Deputy Director for Academics Pn. Yusmo binti Yusof. Being the top 4 tech voc institution all over Asia, Yusof stated that thru APACC, each institution is able to realize its true potential, gives better network and increases influence and strengthens the assets and addresses the weak points of the institution.

Part of the event was the recognition of the STAR Awardees wherein two (2) TVET institutions have garnered three (3) stars such as Southern Isabela College of Arts and Trades from Region II (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Servicing NC II) and Jacobo Gonzales Memorial School of Arts and Trades of Region IV-A (Mechatronics Servicing NC II.

​

On the other hand, twenty-two TVIs have been awarded with 2 stars and 27 with one star. One of the 2 stars awardees are from this institution, Bulusan National Vocational Technical School both for Dressmaking NC II and Tailoring NC II.

​

Also, TESDA recognized the APACC Gold awardees including Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trades and Lupon School of Fisheries; Silver awardees including Kabasalan Institute of Technology, Southern Isabela College of Arts and Trades, Dipolog School of Fisheries, Concepcion Vocational School and TESDA Women’s Center.

​

The event concluded emphasizing TESDAs great contribution to the development of skills and challenges everyone to the success of TESDA.
